Visitation of other clubs hasn’t been high on our agenda. It is regarded as an important side of Lionism and it’s promoted through the Traveling Lion competition. In December 2010, President Seamus was in Australia and made contact with the Fingal Bay Club in the Port Stephens area, which is about 200 kilometres north of Sydney. The club is small, with just 13 members, and finds it difficult to get members to take up officerships. Their main fundraiser is running a secondhand shop in the Nelson Bay area, which is supplied by contributions from the public. Seamus met President Ron and Zone Chairman Joan tending the shop. They can call on five non-Lion volunteers to run it between 10 am and 3 pm daily. Ron presented Seamus with their club banner. Interestingly, the first club to be formed in Australia was in 1947 and it came into existence in a town called Lismore, which is north of Brisbane.
