Our President

When I came from Dublin to Cashel with my wife Peggy in 2007, I had no idea that not only would we find a genuine and warm community to live amongst, but that I would find myself being honoured by election as President of Cashel Lions Club.

From the time I arrived, I reached out, initially by joining Cashel Tidy Towns as a volunteer, then by becoming a member of the choir in St John the Baptist Church in Friar St.

Subsequently I joined the Tipperary Singers, taking part in the many choral events both in Ireland and abroad in which they participated.

As my circle of friends expanded, I came into contact with Cashel Lion Richard Long who invited me to attend a meeting of Cashel Lions in the Parish Centre, Friar St. I realised that I had indeed already assisted at an earlier Lions event (assisting with the Seniors Party Dinner in Halla Na Feile) on the invitation of Lion Paddy Downey.

I had no previous experience or knowledge of Lionism and I saw the goodwill and dedication of the Cashel Lions. I was really astounded at their determination to assist those less fortunate.

Peggy and I experienced an international aspect of Lionism by taking part in the visit by Cashel Lions to Dursley in Summer 2011 when we were hosted by Adrian and Wanda Hutchins. This year saw the tables turned when Peggy and I hosted Adrian and Wanda in Cashel. Both visits proved to be memorable and very enjoyable affairs.

At the well attended Handover Night in Feehans on 30th June 2012, I shared how humbled I was by the honour of becoming President. I took the opportunity to  pay my sincere tribute to outgoing President Seamus King from whom I had learned a great deal. I also praised Club Secretary Richard O’Brien and Treasurer Patricia Quirke for their competent and professional work and also for remaining in office as I would be very reliant on their experience during my year in office. I will endeavor to fill the President’s role to the best of my ability.
