The following are some of the activities carried out by Cashel Lions Club:
Corby Bursary
A Bursary is given each August to a number of students to assist them with the cost of Third Level education. The Bursary resulted from an extremely generous donation to Cashel Lions Club from the Estate of Ms. Corby, Boherclough, Cashel.
Senior Citizen’s Party
Every January the Club hosts a social night for all the Senior Citizen’s of Cashel. The night consists of dinner, followed by music and dancing and is always a most enjoyable night for those attending and also for Club members and volunteers.
Team Hope Project
The Club supports the Team Hope Initiative “Operation Christmas Child” which assembles hundreds of shoe-boxes full of toys and small gifts. These are sent to children in Third-World and Eastern European countries who might otherwise not receive any Christmas presents.
Senior’s Holiday
Cashel Lions Club have been organising holidays for local senior citizens since 1981. In June of that year, the Lions of 105I organised a holiday camp for over 1500 senior citizens at Butlins Holiday Camp, Mosney, Co. Meath. In recent years, approximately sixty people have travelled with the Club for a week’s stay in locations such as Spanish Point in Co. Clare and Carne in Co. Wexford.
Lions Club International Peace Poster Competition
Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. During the last 20 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.
St. Patrick’s Hospital Christmas Party
On the Sunday before Christmas, Cashel Lions Club make their annual visit to the patients and staff of St. Patricks Hospital in Cashel for an afternoon of music, song and of course the President’s famous “Punch” made from a very secret receipe.
Cashel Person of the Year
Each March the Club recognises an individual for their service to the community by awarding them the Lions Club Perpetual Trophy. The list of people who have received the award since 1987 is a who’s who of volunteerism in the town.
Lions Club International Youth Award
The “Young Ambassador” Award each November identifies outstanding young people who serve their community. These young people are motivated, committed to their study, involved in their communities, driven by a desire to help others, proud of their parishes and neighbourhoods and a credit to their families, schools and communities.
